Blue Marble Divers
On August 29, 2006 the DOT (Department of Transportation) amended 49 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations), Parts 173 and 180. The amendment details procedures for the use, inspection, and filling of cylinders made of 6351-T6 aluminum.
6351-T6 cylinders can be identified with an ORIGINAL hydro date of 1988 or earlier.
These cylinders are required to be eddy current tested as part of the 5 year hydro retest procedure. Cylinders tested will be marked with a "VE" after the date and RIN number stamp. Scuba industry policy requires this test to be performed annually during the Visual Inspection procedure.
As a part of the regulation "Suitable safeguards must be taken to protect personnel and facilities should a cylinder fail during the filling process. These safeguards include restricting personnel from the fill area and having a "blast" cabinet in place to contain the blast should a cylinder fail".
Because Blue Marble Divers does not have a blast container we cannot not guarantee the safety of our staff or customers. Blue Marble Divers will not fill, or store any full 6351-T6 aluminum cylinders. Do not bring these cylinders into the store unless FULLY drained.
